City of Tirana planed measure on sustainable development, Dr Lorenc Gordani, 10th June 2017 City of Tirana has adopted a Sustainable Energy Action Plan with the main goal to identify concrete measures for sectors of immediate energy consumption in Tirana, the realization of which will result in CO2 emission reduction by more than 20% by 2020, in relation to the 2011 as baseline year. Methodology for development of the Action Plan is in accordance with the guidelines of the European Commission. The sectors of immediate energy consumption in Tirana, according to the recommendations of the European Commission, include: building, transport and public lighting. Planed measure and risks to make Tirana a green city, Dr Lorenc Gordani, 11th June 2017 Impact of Continuing Urban Growth on Energy Consumption City of Tirana has experienced a rapid urbanization and population growth in the last two decades. Tirana's population has grown from 250,000 in 1990 to 620,000 in 2011 within the administrative area of the Municipality of Tirana (MoT). For the year 2025 the metropolitan area of Tirana (including the communes on the periphery) are estimated to amount to 1 million or more inhabitants. The extreme population growth has directly influenced the annual energy consumption of the city.
