The share of distributed energy sources is rapidly increasing, thereby requiring all stakeholders to revisit the approach to network planning and operation of the electricity system. Due to increasing retail electricity prices and decreasing technology costs, distributed generation is becoming more and more attractive for consumers, which can now choose to produce part of the electricity for their own needs instead of purchasing it from a supplier.
