European countries exploring energy futures with RES growth in mind Though Norway has just announced plans to further develop its infrastructure for exploration and exploitation of new natural gas and oil deposits in the Arctic Ocean’s Barents Sea, in an effort to compete with Russsia, neighboring countries in Europe’s north are shaping their future energy plans with a focus on renewable energy. The Norwegian plan, just announced by the country’s energy minister Terje Soeviknes, is planned to begin with hydrocarbon exploration in the northern part of the Barents Sea, believed to be holding huge unexploited deposits. This plan is expected to be submitted to Norway’s parliament for ratification in 2020.
