Parliamentary Plenum adopts report highlighting importance of cross-border cooperation and acquis implementation to enhance security of energy supply, Ecs 20 December 2017

Yesterday, the Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum adopted the first ever report, the focus of which was security of energy supply. The report was co-drafted by Mr Lev Pidlisetskyi, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament, and Mr Claude Turmes, Member of the European Parliament. Efficient cross-border cooperation among Contracting Parties as well as EU Member States and complete compliance with the acquis was deemed essential for successfully ensuring security of energy supply. The plenum also expressed concerns regarding the outdated legislation on security of gas and electricity supply currently applicable in the Energy Community.

In addition, Members of Parliament underlined that activities in the field of renewable energy sources, applying energy efficiency and saving measures as well as demand-side management play a significant role in increasing security and sustainability of energy supply.

The meeting was opened by Mrs. Sala Berisha-Shala, Chairperson of Committee for Economic Development, Infrastructure, Trade, Industry and Regional Development in the Kosovo* Parliament, on behalf of the Energy Community Presidency in office. The plenum was also addressed by Mr Claude Turmes, Member of European Parliament.

The objective of the Parliamentary Plenum is to make the Energy Community better equipped to implement the acquis by bringing together Members of Parliament of Energy Community Contracting Parties and the European Parliament to discuss shared challenges in the field of energy and beyond.
